University administration is not a bed of roses

Recently appointed officials to the University of Bamenda have been challenged to respect their job description in the discharge of their duties, not to expect immediate reward and reminded that administration in the university is not a bed of roses.
    The Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda Prof. TAFAH EDOKAT O. Edward made the call while installing the officials into their functions, January 8, 2014 at the Asanji Hall of the University.
    The over 53 officials were either appointed by a Presidential Degree or a Ministerial decision. According to Prof. TAFAH there were three Presidential Degrees appointing senior University officials and three Ministerial decisions appointing heads of divisions and heads of services.

    While commissioning the officials the Vice Chancellor first thanked the outgoing officials who had served in the University and had either been called to other duties or gone on retirement for example Prof. Fritz Mbua, former Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research and Cooperation with the Business World who is going on retirement.
    In a special way the Vice Chancellor called on the new Finance Director, Mr Soyang Evaristus who was the former Director of Administrative Affairs in the same University to use his background experience and specialized Knowledge of taxation and financial of administration to overturn the catalogue of problems that the finance service of the University had been encountering.
    “Make transparency and accountability your watch word and improvise modern technological strategies to make financial transactions fluid and swift” he added.
    To the new Director of Administrative affairs Dr. Mandjem Albert, Prof. TAFAH challenged him to make sure job descriptions are well outlined for the different administrators so as to check conflicting and over lapping interest.
    “The organigram of the University of Bamenda is still blurred and it is your responsibility to put that together so as to ensure visibility in everything that we are doing” he added.
    One of the schools that received the attention of the Vice Chancellor was the newly created School of transport and Logistics which is expected to take off in the days ahead. Prof. TAFAH called on them to make do with the little infrastructure (3 rooms) put at their disposal promising them better days ahead.
    The School has as Secretary General Prof. Banlilon Tani, former Head of Department of Political Science at the University of Buea.
     The University of BAMENDA was created by Decree n° 2010/371 of the 14th December 2010. The last of the eight state Universities in Cameroon as primary concern, to achieve the goals attributed to all the state Universities which include Teaching, Research and Outreach.
