Embarrassment in Parliament:

The day Philemon Yang saw red
SDF MPs encircle PM Yang at the rostrumof the National Assembly
Cameroon’s Economic, Social, Financial and Cultural programme for the 2018 Fiscal year has been presented to law makers during a plenary session at the National Assembly.
Prime Minister Philemon Yang presented the program on Wednesday 29th November 2017.
But the PM’s outing at the National Assembly was marred by disruptions from the opposition Social Democratic Front SDF party.
As soon as the PM took to the rostrum the leader of the SDF Parliamentary group, Hon. Joseph Banadzem, moved a motion to halt all debates in parliament. Banadzem said the PM cannot address MPs if the Anglophone problem is not put on the agenda of the Assembly session.
In reaction, House Speaker Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril said the motion should be put to vote. But the SDF MPs protested.
Visibly exasperated, the PM  told the SDF MPs to calm down, promising that the Anglophone crisis will be examined sooner than later.
But the PM’s assurances did not convince the SDF MPs who all moved to the rostrum and disrupting the PM is he continued reading the program.
Reacting later, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona sitting in for the Vice Prime Minister in charge of Relations with the Assemblies decried the action of the SDF Parliamentarians. Owona said the SDF MPs had not shown respect for the PM who is an institution.

In his presentation, PM yang called on the MPs to support the implementation of the program.
The 2018 Socio-economic and Financial program hinges on the 2018 draft state budget estimated at 4.513 billion CFA Francs. The budget has witnessed an increase from last year’s package which stood at 4.373 billion CFA Francs.
PM Yang used the occasion to express government’s commitment to hasten the pace of ongoing projects in the country once the Parliament gives the green light.
SDF MPs had earlier boycotted the solemn opening of parliament.
