On Thursday, July 12, 2018, forces of law and order
reportedly invaded Ofen, a quarter in Tiben village, Batibo sub division, Momo
Division of the North West region and killed “16 unarmed civilians, 8 of them
being members of one family.
According
to a report by the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA
headed by Agbor Balla, of the victims 9 were women and three of them young
girls of ages 8 and below and 7 of them were men.
It is
alleged that Defence and Security forces got news that there was a training
camp for the ADF in Tiben Village and targeted the locality with “intent to
eliminate members of the camp”.
Reports
have it that when they entered the village and failed to see the supposed camp,
they started shooting “sporadically in the air causing panic and commotion”.
“A notable and shocking scenario was the killing of a
teacher, Tebit Evans Chick and 7 members of his family” a statement from the
Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa reveals.
The
other seven members are his wife, three kids, his father and mother and the
mother in law.
In a
similar development, 5 students of the University of Bamenda were supposedly
shot dead by the military in Bambili, Tubah Sub Division, Mezam Division of the
North West region.

Wednesday 11 July, armed men attacked the Police station in Bambili around 9pm.
It is reported that in a shootout that ensued, one of the assailants was
neutralized by the elements on duty. His locally made pistol and a 12 mm
caliber cartridge was reportedly recovered from the scene. A Police Constable was
wounded and is responding to treatment.
In the
same vein, two police officers were allegedly shot in Mbiami, Bui Division of
the North West region by some unidentified gun men around a check point. In
Ndop, Ngoketunjia Division, on Friday July 13, another military official was
attacked.
