Thousands of hunger-stricken internally displaced persons
from Mbonge and Konye Sub-Divisions littered across Kumba have jumped in
jubilation and praised to thank Senator Otte Andrew Mofa for coming to their
assistance to donate them food items.
Senator
Otte Mofa who has arguably ‘exiled’ himself to Yaoundé since the escalation of
the Anglophone crisis coupled with rampant cases of kidnappings along the
Kumba-Buea highway extended his goodwill gesture to the ‘refugees’ onWednesday
27 June 2018 by donating a consignment of food items.The donation comprised40
bags of rice, cartons of soap, cartons of maggi cube, bags of salt and other
basic needs.
The
donations were shared in two different locations to his displaced Konye and
Mbonge kindred. Beneficiaries could be spotted with wrappings happily leaving
the donation grounds. Others who could locate the venue were directed through
urgent telephone calls as they alighted on from taxis and motor bikes to get
themselves identified.
While
receiving the donations, the Konye and Mbonge ‘refugees’ challenged other
elites of Meme who have arguably abandoned them to their fate to come to their
aide in times like this where they are suffering.
Those
who spoke to us noted if all of their elites in Meme Division could come
together, the donations will be better and it will help reduce the rate of
starvation most them are undergoing.
Others
raised worries about other displaced family members and villagers from the two
sub-divisions now living in bushes under very harsh conditions. Worthy of note
here is the fact that several villages have been burnt down in the two
sub-divisions as a result of the crisis.
