French Community Fetes Bastilles Day in Y’de

The French Community in Cameroon numbering about 5000 has celebrated their national day on Saturday 14 July in Yaounde.
The French citizens were joined in the celebration by their Cameroonian friends including government ministers, businessmen, civil society actors and commoners living near the French Embassy.
Speaking during the celebration at the French Embassy at Olezoa here, French Ambassador Gilles Thibault reaffirmed the ever good cooperation ties between France and Cameroon. He said Cameroon and France will always cooperate both in times of challenges as well as in times of peace.
The national day of France was celebrated Saturday, as players of the French national football team were bracing up to play the finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, on Sunday 15 July 2018.
“This year’s celebration is special because tomorrow our national team will be playing the final of the football world cup in Russia. This big game will not be watched by French citizens alone but by friends of France all over the world and especially in Africa,” remarked the French Ambassador, who said he was flattered by the many persons that came to the Embassy courtyard to celebrate the Day of Bastilles with French citizens.

“I must say I am impressed by the huge number of persons who have come to celebrate this special day with us. We together watched on our screen how President Emmanuel Macron presided over the celebration at the Champs d’Elysee.”
The French diplomat used the occasion to call for togetherness between French people and Cameroonians.
“My main message is that we are one and together (nous sommes ensemble).”
Gilles Thibault hailed the cooperation between Cameroon and France and pledged France’s support to help Cameroon to find a lasting solution to the crisis in NW & SW.
