The Professional Football League of Cameroon, LFPC and
club presidents have agreed to resume matches of the leagues after a brief
suspension.
The
decision to suspend the leagues was made public July 6 in a document signed by
LFPC Secretary General, Madame Pauline Therese Manguele. This came after a
meeting of stakeholders which was also attended by the Syndicate of Elite
Football Clubs in Cameroon, SYCEC.
The
decision immediately affected match day 30 fixtures of the MTN Elite I and
matches day 25 fixtures of the MTN Elite II initially scheduled to take place
last weekend.
However
in a twist of good luck, club presidents and the normalization committee have
decided to resume matches this week in both championships.
This
comes after some money owed the clubs was made available by the normalization
committee. A deposit of 155 million FCFA out of 410 million was disbursed to
cover the cost incurred by the league. A balanced of 225 million FCFA is still
being owed the clubs.
Satisfied
with the turn of events with the agreement of the Elite Club Union, the League
has thus reprogrammed the activities of the 30th day of the Elite One on
Tuesday 11, July and the 25th day of the Elite Two on Wednesday 12 July.
As the
championships draw to a close, the promises of funding have not materialized
and as such the working conditions of the players are deplorable. The
normalization committee headed by Barrister Diudonnne Happi has yet to pay the
quota owed to the various clubs agreed at the beginning of the new football
season.
For the
past three seasons, the Cameroon professional Football League LFPC has been
receiving 560 million FCFA as subvention from the state to pay the salaries of
players and coaches while 360 FCFA as operational budget.
In
April, the main sponsor of the championship and partner of the LFPC, MTN
Cameroon said it will review it financial package to the league beginning next
football season from 610 to 210 million FCFA.
MTN also
announce it will be terminating its partnership with the league at the end of
the 2018-2019 football seasons after investing a total of 1,430 billion FCFA
into the championship and 7 billion FCFA into the organization and running of
national championship between 2002 and 2013. However this information was
quickly put to bed as MTN and the league signed a memorandum of understanding
for the company to still be the main sponsor next football season.
