Presbyterian Church in Cameroon

Bastos Parish welcomes associate pastor
- Rev. Achah Gerald Ngoh, 40, was officially presented to the Bastos Congregation during an induction service on Sunday 2 November 2014

Rev. Samuel Fonki
Presiding at the induction service, the Presbyterial Secretary of the East Mungo North Presbytery, who doubles as Parish Pastor of Bastos, Rev. Samuel Fonki exhorted faithful of the Parish to receive Rev. Achah Gerald as a God’s servant who has been sent to guide them. He urged the congregation to respect the new associate pastor and support and pray for him to succeed in his biblical mission.
In his homily during the induction service, Rev. Fonki preaching on the theme: They broke bread together, called on faithful to learn to share with one another.
“Small is never too small; the more you have the more you should be able to share with others,” exhorted Rev. Fonki, who called on church faithful not to accumulate for themselves when others are in need.
The Rev. noted that though we live in a greed conscious society, the greedy can only service when they learn to share; and will lose their lives and humanity when they refuse to share.”
In this vain, Rev. Fonki reminded associate pastor Achah that as Christ’s anointed servant he should be able to teach God’s followers how to share with one another.

“Your coming to Bastos should teach the people how to share,” Rev. Fonki said, noting that the church being a place for the down-trodden, Rev. Achah should see to it that the big family at the Bastos church should always live as one, care for each other and always be there for each other.
He exhorted Rev. Achah to maintain discipline within the church, without discrimination as to class or level in society.
Accepting to take the challenge, Rev. Achah said that it was a humbling experience for him having to serve in such a big and strategic parish like Bastos, Yaounde. He pledged to perform his job with commitment and dedication, God being his helper. He promised to preach only the word of God and nothing else, and prayed God to give him strength and wisdom especially in times of trials and temptation.
Born on 8 April 1974 at Batibo, in Momo division of the NW region, the young Achah Gerald Ngoh was baptized in Wumugi-Batibo on 25 September 1974. Following his confirmation in 1988 he joined the Christian Youth Fellowship CYF the same year. He would later serve as zonal coordinator of CYF lower Moghamo, Batibo Presbytery between 1995 and 2001 and as Provincial President and Vice National President of CYF from 1999 to 2002.
After obtaining his GCE ‘A’ levels at PHS Batibo in 1995, Achah Gerald taught for a while before enrolling in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary where he graduated three years later with a B.Sc in Theology.
Before his transfer to the Bastos Parish, the father of two served successively as Parish Pastor of Eshobi in the Akwaya Presbytery and Parish Pastor of Ossing both in Manyu Division. He also served as Parish pastor of Mbanjock in the East Mungo Presbytery; associate pastor of Azire; associate pastor of Muzang and as youth pastor of the NW region.
The impressively attended induction service on Sunday was crowned with refreshments. But this was not before two 81-year olds namely Ma Fonderson and Major-General James Tataw were acknowledged and hailed by the church, for being discernibly strong and spritely despite the advanced age. Both octogenarians attributed their long stay on earth to God whom they pledged to continue serving for the rest of their days on earth.
