Fire razes student’s hostel in Bamenda

By a correspondent in Bamenda
Fire has consumed a 6 room apartment building at the Ntamulung neighbourhood in Bamenda causing huge material loss. The exact cause of the fire that started in the early morning of Saturday 7 March 2015 is yet unknown.
It took the intervention of some neighbours and the Army Rescue unit to stop the fire from spreading into near-by buildings. Most of the occupants were secondary school students.

Damien, one of the victims and an Upper Sixth student of St Federick High School stood in front of the building in utter dismay as all his books were burnt to ashes. “I am finished,” he cried.
Neighbours spent several minutes fanning others who collapsed upon arriving their apartment that morning.
The fire according to a close neighbour to the building started around 1 am but finally got out of control by 3 am. Shouts of fire woke up the entire quarter who rushed to the scene with buckets of water and sand in an attempt o put out the fire which had gone out of control. It took the intervention of the fire fighters brigade that arrived at the scene around 4 am to put out the fire.
No human life was lost, but material damage was huge.
Investigations are going on to determine the cause of the fire.
