Simon Munzu
Simon Munzu picks another UN job 
- He was appointed recently by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon as Special Representative of the UN operations in Côte d’Ivoire
The United Nations Secretary, General Ban Ki-moon has bestowed confidence in Simon Munzu by appointing him as his Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire, UNOCI.
    The awe-inspiring personality who shocked the Yaounde regime and the entire nation in the 1990’s with his irreversible stance on constitutional reforms in Cameroon was appointed on October 7, 2014.
He succeeds Arnauld Akodjènou of Benin, who now serves as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, MINUSMA. 

    Mr. Munzu brings to this position a wealth of political, human rights, legal, academic and management experience from a career spanning more than 30 years.  He joined the United Nations as a United Nations Volunteer in 1995, and served the Organization until 2012 in various capacities in Rwanda, New York, Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
    His first posting was as a United Nations Volunteer, UNV with the UN Human Rights Field Operation in Rwanda, UNHRFOR which he subsequently headed, from August 1997 to June 1998, as interim Chief of Mission. He worked in the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP office in Rwanda as Programme Manager from July 1998 to February 2001 and, from March 2001 to September 2004, as Senior Policy Adviser on Human Rights at UNDP headquarters in New York.
    He returned to service in the field with the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, DPKO, first as Director of the Human Rights Division of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire, UNOCI from September 2004 to May 2011 and then as Director of Political Affairs in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, MONUSCO from May 2011 until his retirement in August 2012.
    Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr. Munzu spent more than 13 years in academia as a senior lecturer in law in Cameroon, and is currently an advocate and member of the Cameroon Bar Association.
    Mr. Munzu holds a degree in law from the University of London, as well as a doctorate degree in law from the University of Cambridge, and has been a Member of the Bar in England since 1973.
    During his school days he served as Senior Prefect in St. Joseph’s College, Sasse, Speaker of the Student Union Senate in CCAST, Bambili, President of the National Union of Cameroon Students in the United Kingdom, NUCS-UK, and as National Secretary for Economic and Social Affairs of the Central Committee of the CPDM,
    He is also Founder and Senior Partner at Sea-Mountain Law Officesin Limbe, a Professional law firm specializing in business, investment, mining, environment and sports law and covers Central and West Africa.
    Born in 1949, Mr. Munzu is married and has four children.
