Wondjocku FC win Buea council football trophy

By Sam Che, Gaucher in Buea
It will go down in the annals of history that the 5th Edition of the Buea Council Inter-quarter Football Super Cup winners was no other than little-known and under-rated Wondjuku FC from the Bonavada court area. Many football pundits and observers failed in their forecasts as they predicted teams like Goblize FC, Musango fc or Babungo fc to win the super cup.
On the 11th of July when the chairman of the central organizing committee, 1st deputy mayor Motomby Mbome set the ball rolling at the Buea town green for this years kick off under a heavy downpour, little did any body predict that two months on, precisely on 6 September, South West chief executive Bernard Okalia Bilai will give the kick off for the super cup finals at the age-old Molyko Omnisports stadium under similar inclement climatic conditions.
The clouds and the rains had nothing to do with the players’ performance as they exhibited high quality free flowing champagne football. The lord mayor for the Buea municipality Dr Ekema Patrick had not even finished congratulating the governor for his kick off when Babungo fc opened scores at the 2nd minute of play through centre forward David Moka.
The babungo dance group, the mbaya was still celebrating their curtain raiser when Wondjuku marksman Ngalame Clovis a.k.a charger, charged through the Babungo defence to equalize with a powerful shot barely 2minutes later.

The rest of the first half was characterized by misses and near misses until the central referre, A LA BASS sounded his whistle sending both teams to the dressing room, for the half time break.
The 15minutes of recess was very rich in sounds and colours. Popular Makossa musician Njohreur thrilled the crowd with his latest sound track, douzieme jouer. The popular Lingombi dance group were also present to show case the rich cultural heritage of the Bakweris. The Mbaya dancers won the admiration of spectators as they proved that they were true ambassadors from Ngoketunja sub division. The old joe brass band from long street transformed the stadium into a life cabaret with their melodies.
The second segment of the match was more tactical than technical. BOTH had SEEMINGLY OPTED FOR DEFENSIVE PLAY STYLES WHILE OPERATING THROUGH COUNTER OFFENSIVES.THE ONLY TRUE Scoring chance came at the 76th minute when Metuge, jersey no 10 dribbled pass two Wondjuku defenders and enveloped a beautiful volley, but the cross bar refused Babungo fans the chance to jubilate.
At the 90th minute the referee sounded his whistle announcing the end of hostilities to the greatest delight of the ball boys who were almost freezing in the chilly weather but yet enjoying the game.
In the war of nerves that ensued, Wondjuku fc were more focused and panicked less as they scored  four penalties as against two for babungo FC.Journalistic icon Zachary Nkou thrilled the spectators as he gave them a dose of his rich football repertoire. He was assisted in the commentaries by Njeck Sylvanus of mount Cameroon fm.
At the end of the match, the chairman of the organizing committee thanked the governor, the SDO for Fako, and other administrative and military top guns of the region for honoring the invitation of the Buea council to come and share with them in this great football jamboree. He went further to say the 2016 edition will be better than the 5th edition because they will learn from their errors and come up with innovations to have a hitch free 2016 buea council inter quarter football tournament.
In his closing remarks, the land lord of the municipality Dr  Ekema Patrick, said the objectives of the tournament, notably occupying the youths during the long vacation, empowering them through football and serving as a stepping stone for them to realize their dreams of becoming future footballers, has been greatly attained. He congratulated all the clubs that participated in this years Buea council inter quarter  football competition and the super cup. He promised that the Buea council will invest more on sports and leisure activities since they are great unifying factors and vectors of unity, development and peace.
