DO tightens security measures in Ekondo-Titi

By Asong Sylvester(CAMNEWS), Dingha Pyrea (Intern)

Edwin Nkenya Ngwana DO of Ekondo-Titi
The Divisional Officer of Ekondo-Titi, Edwin Nkenya Ndwana have said that with the general level of insecurity in the country perpetuated by the Boko Haram Sect, they are obliged to enforce security measures within the sub-division. Adding that at the level of mixed police and Gendarmerie check points, there is a systematic control of goods and persons that enters and goes out of the sub-division. All of these security measures he narrated are because the sub-division is boarder with our neighbouring Nigeria, where people come from and go to Nigeria on a daily basis. So we are oblige to check persons and goods that enter and go out of the sub-division both on land and at the level of the beach for those who are coming in through the sea, we have regular patrols in town, so as to ensure that the people go about their activities without any major hitches. It is thanks to this strong security measures that we were able to apprehend the gang of thieves that came in from Douala and other gang of three on October 15, 2015.

"It is true that is a very porous sub-division that has so many cricks that enter into the sea and people can enter, but following the decision from the hierarchy, the small cricks have all been closed and there is only one entrance into the sub-division, through the sea from the maritime area, the Ekondo-Titi beach", the DO noted. We have sensitized the population and the forces of law and order are there on a regular basis so anybody who is caught in any of the small cricks that have been closed, will be considered a suspect. On land, in Ekondo-Titi there is a mixed control post in the out let and in the town. The population is already aware that activities go on from 6am till 9pm and any business center seen operating after 9pm, will have to pay for it. We also instructed that metal detectors be used on public ceremonies, health units and schools. Meanwhile school administrators should employ security guards to check people who enter the school premises. The DO said he has instructed that no pupil or students be found roaming in town with uniform during school hours and the security forces on patrol have taken that seriously. Any pupil or student found in town during school hours would be arrested until his or her parents comes and give reasons why he was in town while his mates are in class learning. Mr. Edwin Ngwana however advised that no development can go on in the state of insecurity so the population should be very collaborative, denounce criminals and report any suspected person to the Forces of Law and Order and the Administration, respect measures put in place so that the peace that they enjoy will continue to exist. The Divisional Officer appreciated the collaboration that exists between the administration of the sub-division and the entire population, especially the chiefs. I want to thank in a special way, the chief of one of the villages in the sub-division who together with his subjects, apprehended some illegal immigrants from Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea Conakry and Nigeria and handed to the administration.
