The hotel building which will host
restaurants, a fitness centre, etc. is one of two ultra-modern towers to be built
in the nation’s capital to the tune of 100 billion FCFA.

A giant project to build ultramodern twin
towers in Yaounde has been announced by the director general of Cameroon
Telecommunications, Camtel. David Nkoto Emane made the disclosure to the press
recently, on the sidelines of the International Economic Conference in Yaounde.
He said the twin towers will cost 100 billion FCFA and will have 25 floors each
and will be located on the 20th May Boulevard.
A
loan agreement for the construction of the edifices was signed with the
American government on the sidelines of the international conference held
between 18 and 19 May in Yaounde. It was, in fact, a financial convention worth
150 billion FCFA signed with the American company known as William F. Clark and
Co. LIp.
One
of the structures will serve as the new Camtel headquarters and the other will
host a hotel, restaurants, a fitness centre, etc. The twin towers, which will
be the first of their kind in the nation’s capital, will no doubt help in
beautifying the city. In an interview with the press, David Nkoto Eman said:
“It
is a very important project which we have been working on for two years now.
The only problem we had was one of financing. Today, our American partner has
accepted to finance this project evaluated at 100 billion FCFA, and which is
not meant for Camtel alone.”
Yaounde
city dwellers have been quick to welcome the idea of the project which, if well
exploited, they say, will help raise abundant revenue for the state-run
telecommunications company which is reported to be in serious financial crisis.
They
are also happy that the project is coming up at a time when more hotel and
restaurant services are needed in Yaounde.
The Camtel DG did not however say when
construction works will begin.
