Effective public service management:

Buea Council & UK partners to train young Cameroonians

Young Civil Servants in the public and private sectors, unskilled small business operators and young entrepreneurs, as well as graduates from all works of life will in the near future gain skills in effective public service management and good governance. The training program is one of the clauses in a partnership deal signed between the Buea Council and the UK-based International Governance Institute. The revelation was made at a press conference organized by Buea Council last Monday, 20 June 2016.

                 The 5-Day workshop has as main objective to help Cameroon recover lost grounds in governance, economic and social development, so as to keep pace and secure the realization of the 2035 vision, the Mayor of Buea, Patrick Ekema said at the press conference.

                To achieve this, the Business Management Fellowship (BMF) Professional Development Training has been designed to implement support at local government levels, with lecturers and skilled facilitators in business management, anti-corruption, and good governance experts expected from African and European Universities.

Organized alongside the Buea Council, the BMF will also teach best practices in Business administration and management to some ten thousand private sector operators in Buea; this, for a period of 5 years.

                According to Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge, the seminar that will run from July 4, through July 8 will increase Cameroon’s human resource competitiveness locally, thereby ensuring investors’ security in the Buea municipality and also prepare the well-being of the population.

                The seminar seeks to offer a unique opportunity for youths to gain expert knowledge on a range of practical skills that will make them marketable and competitive in their various work forces.

                In a bid to facilitate the training, the Mayor of the Buea Municipality, Ekema Patrick, is offering a number of full scholarships for fellows to participate in the program. To benefit from this scholarship, applicants will have to write a short essay explaining their understanding of such national development policy programs like the National Anti-Corruption Strategy of Cameroon, the Good Governance Program, and the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy.
