Four months to deadline:

Work starts timidly at B’da Stadium

On Wednesday April 20, 2016, North West Governor Adolph Lele L’afrique Tchoffo Deben in the presence of the president of FECAFOOT, Tombi A Roko Sidiki laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 2500 sitter Olympic stadium in the city of Bamenda.

The contractor of the project Prime Potomac Global was given a deadline of six months to execute the project. The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the company Ben Modo, agreed to these terms and promised in the presences of NW Governor and FECAFOOT officials likewise the people of the North West Region, that his company had the competence to execute the project within the stipulated time.
No sooner did the lay the foundation stone did some conspiracy theorists cast doubts on the veracity of the promise of the long awaited stadium and more importantly the time frame that was given for the execution of the project.
Two months after the foundation stone was laid and four months left for the contractor to deliver, work timidly started at the project site this on Tuesday June 14 according to information obtained by The Median.
In a bid to appraise the work, The Median saw some fifteen workers on site. Despite the snail’s speed, the project’s chief engineer Mrs Asong said  they were doing everything they can to catch up.

The delay in the execution of the project according to Madam Asong was due to “technical reasons”. She however promised that they will try to meet deadline but expressed some constraints.
“As you can see, work began in full rainy season. Last week for example, we lost three days of work because of rain. It should also provide for administrative constraints control missions for example”. She said.
onlookers who were on site to see the progress of the work expressed reservations as to how serious the contractor was judging from the fact that there was no heavy machinery on site and that most of the work was done with hand tools.

When this worry was raised to the project’s chief engineer Mrs Asong by reporters, she disclosed that the implementation process underway did not need heavy equipments.
“It would be useless to come with heavy duty equipment here as they are useful elsewhere. Again, it's a matter of time. We'll get to that autonomy. For now the excavation work does not require the light since no work is done in the night” she added.

If realized, the stadium will host several sporting disciplines amongst them athletics, football, handball, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, a restaurant, dressing rooms for teams, a media center and a transmission room. The facility will also replace the old structure which has been there since 1960s with no rehabilitation.
