Bangem populations savour tarred roads, plebiscite Paul Biya
Militants of CPDM KupeMuanenguba I section, on Saturday 5 November 2016 converged on the Paul Biya Stadium in Bangem for a Joint Section Conference. They used the occasion to hail President Biya for the ongoing tarring of the streets of Bangem town and rehabilitation of the Bangem-Melong road

Militants of CPDM KupeMuanenguba I, Bangem, headguarters of KupeMuanenguba division, have jumped for joy and have addressed a motion of thanks and support to President Paul Biya following the first phase of the tarring of the Melong-Bangem road and ongoing tarring of some streets in Bangem town.
Bangem denizens made the public acknowledgement during a Joint Section Conference of CPDM Bangem Section holding at the Bangem Municipal Stadium otherwise called the Paul Biya Stadium, on 4 and 5 November 2016.
Guided by the theme for the conference: “Consolidating achievements towards sustainable development of KupeMuanenguba division and Cameroon”, speaker after speaker at the event acknowledged with discernible elation the transformation that the town of Bangem is witnessing lately and especially the tarring of part of the Melong-Bangem road. The tarring of the road has put a stop to the perennial difficulties that the agrairian populations of Bangem have been facing ferrying their farm produce to markets.
That was why in his remarks at the hugely attended conference, the mayor of Bangem, Simon Ekou, noted that “Bangem is changing.... Bangem has now become a permanent construction site, with major development projects ongoing all over in the town.....Bangem is gradually being transformed from the village town that it was to a modern town with tarred roads and other modern infrastructure”.

The Bangem grandstand was jammed to capacity
The mayor  noted that with the tarring of part (20 km) of the Bangem-Melong road it now takes barely 40 minutes to get to Melong from Bangem, apart from the fact that the abundant food and cash crops cultivated on the exceedingly fertile volcanic soils of Bangem can now be evacuated with ease to far away urban markets.
The mayor said today there are no more complains about muddy roads in Bangem. Yet, he beckoned on the political elite to continue lobbying for the roads to be adequately and completely done and for more development projects to be sent to Bangem.
Echoing the Mayor, the YCPDM Section President, Kang Primus Metuge, hailed government for the improved municipal and inter-connecting roads. He prayed that studies for the building of the Tombel-Bangem and Bangem-Nguti roads be hastened so that the projects can be done.
Kang said Bangem’s continues support to President Biya will now depend on what she gets back in exchange for the support because according him ‘politics nanjangi; you scratch my back i scratch your own’.

    Brother against brother
The thrust of the speeches at the Joint Section Conference was not only on development. The disunity and absence of ‘union sacre’ among the political elite of KupeMuanenguba was also underscored. For instance, during the ecumenical prayers that preceded the deliberations, one of the pastors noted that “the problem of the Bakossi man is the Bakossi man.” He urged the political leaders of KupeMuanenguba to come together and federate their forces if they want the division to move forward.
In the same vain, the Section President of Bangem CPDM, MesumbeMbukelomeAmbroise, hinged his message on lack of togetherness and unity among sons and daughters of KupeMuanenguba, especially the political elite.
“You don’t count on others when you cannot count on yourself…And you can’t count on yourself when others cannot bear you testimony,” Mbukelome opined, exhorting political elite of KupeMuanenguba to forge unity among themselves if ever they must together bring development to their division.
Commentators at the ceremonial ground were unanimous that Mr. Mbukelome’s message summarized the attitude of the typical KupeMuanenguba politician. They noted for example the absence of unity and ‘union sacre’ within the permanent divisional coordination of the CPDM for KupeMuanenguba.
Political watchers in Bangem wondered aloud why ever since the putting in place of the the permanent divisional coordination, not a single meeting has been convened to permit for all the members to come together and table the problems affecting KupeMuanenguba CPDM so as to chart a better way forward.
Informed observers note that the functioning of the permanent divisional coordination has been mired by divisive antics and unnecessary grandstanding, and these  have only driven away the much-needed frank collaboration and ‘union sacre’ that should be the hallmarks of such a committee.
It was perhaps in recognition of this weakness that the President of the divisional coordination, Prof. Elvis NgolleNgolle, who represented the SG of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Kuete, at the conference, put the thrust of his message on exemplary militancy. The Professor of political science said it is only when militants adopt the right attitudes that they can help President Paul Biya in his drive to consolidate the sterling achievements of the party and also conquer new territory.  NgolleNgolle enjoined militants to forge an all-inclusive CPDM in Bangem and KupeMuanenguba.
However, some commentators at the conference maintained that it is not enough to only preach unity and exemplary militancy. They said the divisional coordination should first show the good example by forging unity within and among its members before urging grassroots militants to be united.
Informed observers noted that since its coming into being the some members of the divisional coordination have been boycotting each other and cannot even look at each other in the face, not to mention talking to each other.
Yet, the section conference was not an arena for political rhetoric alone. Educative papers were also presented on topics such as sustainable, self-reliant development, youth responsibility and citizenship among others.
Prominent among the attendees at the conference was the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Finance, H.E. Elung Paul Che, Senator Rose NdodeNtube, Hon. Robert Ngujede, the SDO of KupeMuanengubaHadissonQuetong, the Deputy GM of MAETUR MbongMichealMbine, the Director of Petroleum at the MINEE NhonAkame, KupeMuanenguba parliamentary hopeful Bide Cletus and a huge crowd of enthusiastic grassroots militants, who braved the heavy down pour just to grace the event with their presence.

Spell-binding cultural displays
If there was a major success that all who attended the CPDM Bangem joint section conference conceded to the organizers it was the spell-binding choreographic display of the culture and dance of the Bakossi people. The at least ten dance and choral groups that performed during the event were simply spectacular and irresistible. And there was ‘farotageagogo’. The dancers and choristers literally portrayed Bangem as not only the cultural hub of the Bakossi tribe but also as the veritable watershed of the age-old culture and traditions of the indigenous Bakossi people of Cameroon.
