Chiefs of KupeMuanenguba Division of the Southwest region under the KupeMuanenguba Chiefs Conference have challenged the Head of State President Paul Biya to implement the section of the 1996 Constitution that makes for ten decentralized regional councils in the country. The chiefs made the call in an extraordinary general assembly meeting on 25 January 2017 at the Tombel council hall.
The deliberations of the meeting centered on seeking ways for schools resumption as a way forward for the ongoing civil unrest in the country, as well as disassociate themselves from the ongoing call by the now outlawed Consortium for a two-state federation and/or secession.
Acknowledging the existence of an Anglophone problem, one of the chiefs, HRH Dr. AtemEbako pleaded with parents and the general public not to jeopardize the future of their children by keeping their children at home. He enjoined parents to ensure the effective reopening of schools in the division.
Some of the chiefs present expressed the wish to have a joint conference of Northwest and Southwest chiefs to put heads together and seek a solution to the present impasse.

The president of the KupeMuanenguba chiefs conference, HRH Ekwoge Joseph, underscored the importance of the extraordinary conference, saying its resolutions will help find a solution to the unfortunate happenings in the land, notably the teachers and lawyers strike, the non-functioning of schools, the call for ghost towns that is crippling the activities of the area, the threats of harm and death hovering over some people, the failure of appeals for a resumption of schools among others.
Chief Ekwoge said as auxiliaries of the administration, it is incumbent on them to ensure peace and stability by salvaging the present crisis and restoring hope to their communities. He reiterated the stance of Southwest Chiefs Conference for a one and indivisible Cameroon with ten decentralized regions where the specificities of each region are upheld.
It should be recall that the KupeMuanenguba chiefs’ conference comes after a series of failed meetings by chiefs and elites of the division to see that schools successfully reopen in the Division.
The chiefs’ conference was held under the watchful eyes of the ASDO for KupeMuanenguba, Donald Nyam, who joined the chiefs to plead on the population to see the urgent need for schools to effectively resume in the division.
