Biya compensates B’da Food Market Fire Victims

Food Market Victims with North West Governor, Lelel’Afrique
Victims of the March 14th fire incident at the Bamenda food market where a total of six lockup stores, 91 open stores (temporal stores) and 12 trading benches were ravaged by fire have received the sum of over FCFA 75 million from the President of the Republic, H.E Paul Biya as compensation.
                Handing over the financial package to the victims recently in Bamenda at a brief ceremony at the Bamenda Congress Hall, North West Governor, Adolph LeleL’Afrique challenged them to put the money into effective use so that they can start their businesses anew and to repay the Head of State's good gesture by shunning calls for ghost town
                A total of 73,700,000 FRS was distributed to the victims. The six affected lockup stores shared a total 20 million FRS, 475,000 FRS each to the 91 temporal sheds and 100,000 FRS each for the 12 trading tables that were razed to the ground in the fire incident.
                The financial support he says is not a compensation for their loss but a gesture from the head of state to his compatriots.
                He also called on the victims to Shun all calls for civil disobedience and” stand by the state” as government has taken measures to resolve the current Anglophone crisis raised by Anglophone teachers and lawyers.
                Its popular believe in Bamenda that the shops were burnt because they did not respect the calls for ghost town that has paralysed economic activities in the Northwest and southwest Regions for close to four months now.
                One of the victims, MdzemniaEmmaculate, who owned a lock up shed said she received a total of 3.9 million FRS and express her gratitude to the head of state for coming to their aid though she acknowledged that the amount is meager compares to the colossal sum of about 27 million FRS worth of goods that she lost to the fire.
                One person, whose names has not been made public is currently held under detention in relation to the fire incident while the other perpetrators of the act are reported to be on the run, Northwest Governor said.

Through the traders initiative and means, the part of the market that was destroyed by the fire has been reconstructed and reinforced.
