Meme SDO Declares Dusk-to-Dawn Curfew

Following recent gun battle between Ambazonia separatist
fighters and government forces in Kumba, the Senior Divisional Officer for
Meme, Chamberlin Ntou'ou Ndong has signed a dusk-to-dawn curfew banning the
circulation of motor bikes and the opening of drinking spots.
The
prefectoral order signed Thursday February 8, referenced G39/RA/005 a copy
which The Median procured partly reads "The Senior Divisional Officer for
Meme Division has the honour to inform the population of Meme in general and
Kumba in particular that, considering the persistent threat against social
peace and national security, all drinking establishments (Bars, snack-bars,
night-clubs etc) should be closed as from 9p.m prompt from Monday to Sunday
till further notice within Kumba municipality".
The
SDO's order urges the population to in collaboration with Heads of security
forces and all administrative authorities denounce systematically all suspected
individuals or activities that compromise peace. The prefectoral order further
warns defaulters of serious sanctions to be slam them.
The
population has however welcomed the SDO's order with mixed feelings shortly
after been aired in local radio stations in Kumba. While some people applaud
the SDO for the move, others are of the opinion that the "long
throat" public security officers will use the order as an opportunity to,
intimidate and extort huge sums from the population even before the time limit
stated by the order.
