The Canadian government has offered the sum of 10 million
Canadian dollars (4 billion FCFA) to help Cameroon fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
This
was disclosed during an audience granted the Canadian High Commissioner to
Cameroon, Richard Bale, by the Cameroon Minister of External Relations, Lejeune
Mbella Mbella, on Tuesday, 9 June, in his cabinet at the Minrex.
The
audience granted the Canadian High Commissioner was a follow-up to a recent
phone call made by the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation to his
Cameroonian counterpart.
Speaking
to reporters after the audience, the Canadian envoy said Canada has assisted
Cameroon this year with 5million Canadian dollars (2.15bn CFA) for humanitarian
assistance. The money is destined for the use in the Far North, East, NW and SW
regions.
Canada also provided 2.15bn CFA to assist Cameroon in the
fight against Covid-19, Bale informed, saying the money is channeled through
local charity organizations and UN agencies.
Canada also provided 200 test kits for Covid-19 to Cameroon,
Mr Bale said.
