The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM political party has raised an alarm of what he claims of an ongoing scheme at the Unity Palace whereby the sitting president and head of state, Paul Biya, wants to undemocratically transfer power to one of his CPDM regime lackeys by means of mutual agreement (gre-a-gre).
Prof. Maurice Kamto, self-proclaimed president-elect of the 7 October 2018 Presidential election, raised the alarm Monday 1 June 2020 through his party’s official Facebook page, in a message to his party supporters and all Cameroonians striving for democratic change.
Kamto said things are becoming clearer, more than ever before, that those he describes as “over-the-counter architects” are at work, trying to accelerate the course of the country’s history for their own profit, in defiance of all the democratic rules of power alternation, against the sufferings of the Cameroonian people.
“Let it be clear to all. We will never accept any form of power succession by mutual agreement at the helm of the State. We will stand against any manipulation, even constitutional, tending to the accession to the supreme office by means other than elective means,” the CRM leader said.
Speaking in with discernible vehemence, Kamto says his party will mobilize against the organization of any general elections in Cameroon without prior fulfillment of the following two major prerequisites: finding a solution to the armed conflict in the Anglophone regions and consensual reform of the electoral law.

Urging Cameroonians to be alert and keep keen watch over events in the country, Kamto hinted that the ongoing plot at the Etoudi Palace was hatched with the support of some foreign powers that do not want a democratic transition in Cameroon. He says these powers are already at work, and are ready to go to any length and cross all boundaries in their determined endorsement and support of project.
“These are the moments when our people must find in the depths of itself the spring and the wake-up call which is essential to choosing the course of its destiny. Through our collective vigilance and our sense of patriotic duty, we must spare our country a new disaster of almost half a century that has been in preparation through the usurpation of power,” Kamto exhorted.
Recalling the circumstances that unfolded during the 7 October 2018 presidential election, Kamto noted that the Constitutional Council dealt a serious blow to Cameroonian democracy by declaring as winner a candidate who did not claim the majority of the votes cast in the ballot boxes.
He condemned the torture and illegal detention of CRM militants who peacefully protested against electoral hold-up, the war in the NW/SW regions and against the misappropriation of resources dedicated to the organisation of the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 which was finally withdrawn from Cameroon.
To Kamto, the Biya regime has remained deaf, dumb and disdainful in the face of the suffering of the martyred populations of NW and SW, and the legitimate expectations of the Cameroonian people regarding the consensual reform of the electoral system, adding that the regime is aware that such a reform, if properly carried out, would certainly spell the end of the fraudulent elections that have sadly punctuated the history of Cameroon.
Kamto called on Cameroonians, and his followers especially, to massively enroll on the electoral registers so that when the time comes they will massively vote for change at the helm of the state.
