“In his address to the nation on 19 May 2020, the President of the Republic insisted on the obligatory wearing of masks as a means towards preventing the spread of the Covid-19. He insisted on the respect of barrier measures prescribed by the government,” noted Minister Atanga Nji, adding that by this other gesture to pupils and students, President Paul Biya is sending a strong message about his resolve to fight the ‘Global Pandemic’.
The 170.000 masks offered by the head of state are destined essentially for State and Private Universities, Higher Institutions of Learning, high schools, colleges, professional training schools as well as primary schools, notes a Minat release.

The heads of the four ministries were present at the scene of action to receive their consignments. They thanked the head of state for the gesture, promising to put the masks to adequate use.
Dr. Ashiri Kilo of Basic Education for instance, said the masks were highly needed by primary school kids, many of whose parents could not find masks adapted for children in the local markets.
“It is a most welcome gesture by the head of state. I recall that when we visited schools at the opening last week, we realized that the younger children did not have masks that fitted them. Some of them were forced to wear masks made for adults. We are happy that the Head of state listened to our observation and has provided the appropriate masks for these kids’, Dr Ashiri Kilo enthused.
