SCNC activist escapes police arrest

Egbe Elvis Tambe Nyuo
A staunch militant of the Southern Cameroons National Council, SCNC in Mutengene in the South West region has succeeded to elude arrest by security operatives and has fled to a yet unknown destination.
The Median learnt that Egbe Elvis Tambe Nyuo Ashu succeeded to outsmart police officers who came for his arrest at his Mutengene home recently; he fled into the nearby bushes and has since not returned.
Reports say the young man is noted for preaching separatist ideology to whoever cares to listen to him in Mutengene. He also distributes tracts calling for the populations to join ranks with the SCNC and fight the occupation of Southern Cameroons territory by La Republique.
We learnt that Egbe Elvis Tambe continued with his subversive activities in spite of advice from his parents and siblings for him to keep out of the SCNC.
“I don’t know why he decided to join the SCNC. He spends all his time and money on SCNC activities. We still do not know what he intends to benefit from it,” said Egbe Nelson, junior brother of Egbe Elvis.
“Now he is on the run and no body knows his whereabouts. We don’t know how he is surviving where he is hiding,” Nelson further lamented.

The SCNC is a secessionist movement that advocates the restoration of the statehood of British Southern Cameroons. It preaches secession from the republic of Cameroon.
The Cameroon government has since advised members of the SCNC to constitute themselves into a political party so as to get legal status, but they have since refused to do so, saying they cannot be a political party under La Republique Du Cameroon.
Several SCNC activists are currently languishing in the Bamenda and Buea prisons. A frontline activist of the separatist movement, Oben Marxwell, who was arrested since February 2014 is still languishing in the Buea Prison. He was charged with subversion, inciting the population to civil war and plotting to overthrow the Yaounde regime.
