“Youths are a Corner Stone to Cameroon’s Emergence”- COMSU

Monono Hans Mbole, COMSU President
Students of some selected secondary schools in Buea have been reminded of the vital role they must play for the emergence of Cameroon. The call was made by members of the Commonwealth Club of the University of Buea last Friday, February 19, 2016 during the third edition of the Commonwealth Young Leaders Forum, dubbed: “Youths, A Corner Stone to Emergence”.
The third edition of the Young Leaders Forum organized by the “Gentlemen Club”, as they are fondly called saw the participation of six secondary and higher education schools in Buea who converged at the Baptist High School auditorium, with outstanding speakers of various field of life to help them pass across the message of leadership and continuity to the students.
According to Mrs. Titanji Beatrice, founder of KUMU-FET-FET (Association of Bali Women, fighting against Girl Child abuse and child trafficking)“Many young vulnerable Cameroonians are lamenting every day in the middle east and the rest of the world  because of their search for greener pasture with little or no   knowledge of how really green the pasture is over there. For this reason many of them have become sex slaves, house helps and many others unspeakable things”. Tijanti Beatrice while lamenting, urged the youths to be active and let their voice be heard.

Through debates and quizzes, the students shared ideas on the complex topics chosen for discussion. The president of the University of Buea     Commonwealth Club, Monono Hans Mbole, while talking of on the Forum’s theme revealed, “Youths are the backbone of any society just like what the President of the Republic said on the eve of this year’s Youth Day”. “We are just walking in line with him, telling him that we are behind him; the 2035 Emergency Plan is  not for our fathers but rather for us the youths”- the president added.
At the end of the forum, the students were satisfied, with much fresh material ready to be put in practice. Otu Agnes, a student of G.H.S Bokwaongo said “I have never attended a Young Leaders Forum. This is my first time. But it was worth it given that I have learned about what happens to young people out of the country in search of jobs especially girls. I likewise learned how to fight corruption, and the kinds of corruption that exist. I knew nothing about all these’’.
Despites its low turnout, the third edition of the Young Leaders Forum was a success. A success because, most youths that converged for the event left with knowledge that according to them was enough to change a lot about their past thoughts and actions. Vices such as laziness, irresponsibility, unpunctuality, poor time management were strongly discouraged. They were challenged to replace them with Patriotism, Hope, and positive thinking.
