Outcome of the fire incident
Residents of Great Soppo quarters in Buea were in shock Friday, 16 September 2016 as a sudden fire outbreak razed at least 10 houses within minutes leaving many families homeless and confused.
According to eye witness reports, the fire was caused by a lady who abandoned her pot on the fire and went about doing other things. The pot reportedly went ablaze and the fire caught the walls of the carabot house before spreading easily to neighboring houses, all of them built with plank (carabot).

In less than five minutes, at least ten houses had been burnt to ashes, eye witnesses said. The absence of professional fire-fighters only made the situation worse. Police who came almost an hour later could not help the situation.
It is not the first time Great Soppo is faced with fire outbreaks. Some months back, it was street one which suffered a fire incident. It left families stranded and relying on government for assistance.
