Allegations of fraudulent admission:

CPDM bigwig shames GCE Registrar for betraying his own brother
By Boris Esono in Buea
Humphrey Ekema Monono, GCE Registrar
The Section President of CPDM Meme 1A, Tabot Lawson Bakia fondly called Njalla, has criticized the registrar of the GCE Board, Dr. Humphrey Ekema Monono for exposing the results slips of the Mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick Esunge, following the recent wave of speculations on the social media that the mayor frauded his admission into the Buea University without satisfying the requisite entry conditions.
Tabot Lawson thundered his dissatisfaction with the way the GCE board registrar, the public and the social media have handled the matter, which continues to animate a vast amount of discussion and debate in the country.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the CPDM Meme II section conference that took place on Friday 14 July, at Mbonge.
Responding to questions from prying reporters as to his reaction to the scandal over alleged faked certificates by the Mayor of Buea, Lawson said:
"I must say that the way the social media and some people are blowing the allegation of fake certificates by Mayor Ekema is beyond proportion.  Ekema is not the only person who has faked certificate, that is, if he actually faked the GCE certificate. Others have been discovered with fake certificates in big companies like Pamol, CNPS, CDC, Councils and even in Universities and the government. I cannot call names here but we all know them. We have people who have entered big schools like ENAM and other big recruitment schools in this country with fake certificates. Ekema even had one 'A' level which he used to get admission into the University.  There are those who frauded the 'O' and 'A' levels and have gotten big jobs in places. Some of them are today honourable MPs, Magistrates, Mayors etc," Lawson said, before blaming the registrar of the GCE board, Dr. Humphrey Monono for readily publishing Ekema’s results slips to the public.

"In all of this i want to blame fully the registrar of the GCE board for selling out Ekema to the public by exposing his GCE slips.  I want to tell Humphrey Monono that he is not a just man himself. Why did he not publish the results of the other 97 persons whose names featured on the list of those with fake certificates in UB? Why did he choose only Ekema? Why should people give a bad name to Ekema just to hang him? Lawson wondered aloud.

Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge, sold by his own brother
“Those unveiling the fake certificate of the Mayor are people who only want to destroy Ekema’s image and that of the university of Buea. These are people who only want to destroy the good image that madam Dorothy Njeuma and all the former Vice Chancellors have built for UB," Tabot opined, urging the population to stop the smear campaign against Mayor Ekema.
Quizzed as to why Ekema has stayed mute despite the scathing allegations and even after angry students carried placards to protest against fake certificates in UB, Tabot Lawson said Ekema has a right to either talk or stay mute.
But Tabot at once admitted that he too was taken a back by what happened in the university.
"I saw people of good nature arguing over a certificate fraud as if it is a new thing. Fake certificate issues are not new in Cameroon. People have frauded in all circles of life in this country.
Asked if Ekema should go unpunished, Lawson Tabot said he is not the one to decide.               "All i am saying is that the manner in which they are taking it is like he is the first Cameroonian who ever frauded and was caught. Ekema is not the first and he will not be the last. Instances of frauds are legion in the country. If one were to investigate those registring for concours then the cases of fraud would be uncountable. What about those who reduce their ages from 45 to 22 just to sit concours?” Lawson wondered.
On whether the Mayor’s fake certificate scandal can be considered as a blow to the ruling party, he said that cannot be because Ekema is only an individual. Besides, Ekema did not become Mayor of Buea because of his certificate.
“There is no academic criteria for a Mayor in  Cameroon. So the fake certificate scandal has nothing to do with the CPDM party.”
