26 years without a minister:

Meme politicians lick their wounds as Biya forgets them again
By Doh Bertrand Nua in Kumba
Justice Benjy Itoe was the last Meme Minister since 1992
Militants of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM party in Meme Division have expressed anger and disappointment over the March 2 cabinet shakeup by President Paul Biya who doubles as their party chairman. The militants who spoke to The Median noted that the Head of State once again ignored Meme Division that has gone for 26 years, since 1992, without a minister in government.
They said they were waiting for President Biya to save them the insults from the opposition SDF that misses no opportunity to ridicule them of supporting a party that has abandoned them and gives them nothing in return.
According to scores of angry CPDM militants in Meme who came complaining to The Median, the non-appointment of a Meme indigene as a Minister in the last cabinet shake up makes it almost three decades that the division has been without a Minister in government. They noted that the last Meme son to be minister was Benjamin Itoe who left the government some 26 years ago, 1992.
“It is as if we of the CPDM in Meme Division have been completely forgotten by the Head of State. For the past two and a half decades, no son of Meme Division has been given a position in the government,” said an irate CPDM militant, Pius Eseme Akwo, who noted that some divisions in the South West like Manyu, Fako and Kupe Muanenguba have at times two ministers in the same government, but Meme is left without even a secretary of state.

“What have we done wrong to president Biya to deserve this kind of shabby and disgraceful treatment?” Esseme wondered aloud, noting that this abandonment by yaounde will only push more militants into the waiting embrace of the opposition SDF.
“Very soon we will be going to the field to celebrate the CPDM anniversary on March 24 and we will certainly have no justifications to give militants on why we have been left in the cold for this long,” lamented a section president who begged to stay anonymous.

Political Infighting blamed
As news spread like bush fire that another cabinet shakeup has been announced with no Meme son appointed, many wasted no time to blame the situation on the greed, witch-hunting, back-stabbing, infighting, gossip, petition writing etc that has marred politics in Meme Division over the years. Political watchers said until Meme political leaders shed their dirty coats, shun their self-seeking schemes, and start looking beyond their egos, nothing good will ever come to the Division from Yaoundé.
Commentators wondered aloud why the Mukete and Mutanga camps cannot unite and work together for the general interest of Meme?

SDF Domination blamed
Others simply attributed Meme’s political woes to the SDF domination in the division. They noted that the SDF presently controls all three councils in Kumba and the lone parliamentary seat for metropolitan Kumba. The SDF also gave the CPDM a run for its money and power in Mbonge and Konye in the 2013 elections.
Recall that in 2007 SDF also defeated the CPDM in the Legislative re-run in Kumba Urban.
Political pundits contend that with this SDF domination, Meme CPDM should expect nothing good enough from President Biya.
And the present  Anglophone crisis does not predict good tidings for the CPDM in Meme.
