Gov’t to Review Public Service Methods & Procedures

A 3-day colloquium to discuss ways on how to modernize the public service in the country has been launched in Yaounde. The event placed under the patronage of the President was launched by Prime Minister, Dr. Dion Ngute Joseph at the Yaounde City Hall Monday 13 January 2020.
    The event organised by the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms (Minfopra), is under the theme “Modernisation of the Cameroonian Civil Service: Stakes, Challenges and Prospects.”
    It will for three days bring together public administrators, human resource managers, municipal authorities, officials in charge of services of decentralised local authorities, NGOs, Civil society, opinion leaders, trade unions, as well as university students to jointly reflect on challenges and opportunities for the modernisation of the Cameroonian public administration.

    The symposium will help the participants and expert make a retrospective and prospective look at the management of the State human resources; analyse the different statutes of State personnel while taking into consideration the different formalities, modalities and procedures of their management, critical reading of the civil service texts, formalities and procedures in force with the purpose of harmonising and rationalising the management of the State's human resources in a bid to enhance the contribution of the public sector to the development process.
    Minister Joseph Le of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, explained that through the symposium, the desire to put to effect will of the President Biya when he said “the objective of emergence must be established as a great national cause that mobilises all our citizens….in this regard, public service agents, as well as the private sector, have an important role to play".
    The three day symposium will also feature exhibitions, information and awareness-raising from MINFOPRA officials other ministries on the functioning of the public service and income-generating projects. Panel debates on topics chosen from the public, private and civil society sectors will also be part of the event. Partcipants will also be given an opportunity to watch documentary on the career path of public officials while others will get copies of the book entitled "Pour une fonction publique de proximité,” produced by MINFOPRA.
