ELECAM Getting Set for Regional Elections
-Board members of Elections Cameroon met for their 7th
ordinary session in Yaounde last week

After organising the twin municipal and legislative polls
which he qualified as free, fair and holding within an atmosphere of serenity
and calm, the Chairman of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM),
Governor Enow Egbe Abrams, has said the body will immediately begin
preparations for the upcoming regional polls.

He made
the observations while opening the deliberations of the 7th Session as of right
of the Electoral Board holding in accordance with the provisions of section
19(2) of the Electoral Code which states that “The Electoral Board shall meet
at least once every fortnight upon the convening of the electorate.”
“It is worth noting that, this will be the
first election of its kind and, which means we don’t have to spare our efforts,
for we must without any delay get back to work,” Enow Abrams said, adding, that
ELECAM’s ultimate objective, guided by the orgainsation of free and fair
elections, is to continue contributing towards boosting the credibility of the
democratic process, in order to consolidate peace, stability and social
cohesion in the country.
He said
that thanks to its quest for excellence, Elecam has made considerable
improvement, lived up to its expectations, overcoming major challenges and
surmounting up-climb obstacles.
Enow
exhorted Board Members to draw from their energy reserves and stimulate
themselves to embrace the new dynamism with optimism, courage and
determination.
He
underscored the body’s role in helping to consolidate the democratic process in
the country, reminding members that the international community is watching
them.
He
hailed the neutrality and professionalism demonstrated by the Board Members and
the Directorate General in the successful organization of the twin elections,
urging them to step up their commitment towards perfecting the electoral
process in the country.
