Hundreds of youths gathered at the entrance into Mamfe town on Wednesday 29 January, to welcome the head of the CPDM divisional campaign commission for Manyu, Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency, Sesekou Engr. Mengot Victor Arrey Nkongho, as he led the CPDM campaign caravan into Mamfe town, for the official launch of the party’s campaigns in Manyu ahead of the 9 February twin Municipal/Legislative elections.

As the crowds continued singing, dancing and brandishing CPDM party fabrics in praise of President Biya and the CPDM, Victor Mengot and his commission immediately settled down to serious business, holding a pre-launching meeting with grassroots leaders of the CPDM in Manyu.
The turnout at the official campaign launching ceremony that followed soon after at the town hall was another clear indicator of the hegemony that the CPDM enjoys in Manyu.
Speaker after speaker at the event, including the Mayor of Mamfe, the YCPDM President for Eyumojock (CPDM Manyu 111), the WCPDM President for Manyu 11 Akwaya, Ekwale Emilia Ada, the President of CPDM Mamfe Central, Chief Emoh Daniel Takor, the Political Patriarch of Manyu, Senator Chief Tabetando George Ndiep-Nso and the Manyu Political Boss and Vision-Bearer, Minister Mengot Victor all did not miss the occasion to vaunt the CPDM as the sole and overriding political force in Manyu.
Minister Mengot for instance, described the only party to challenge the CPDM in Manyu in the two elections on 9 February, the CDP party of Enow Benz Bate, as an ‘inconsequential irritant’ that is only out to distract and to amuse, without posing any serious threat to the CPDM, whose bastion Manyu division is, has always been and will remain for years to come.
“We came here today to launch divisional campaigns of our great party, the CPDM. You are aware that Manyu has a long-standing contract with the CPDM… It is for this reason that no other party can thrive in Manyu…They come from time to time but they end up disappearing and crumbling under the weight of the CPDM….,” Victor Mengot said.
“So, we came with a strong message for our people. We are asking them to come out like one man on 9 February and give a resounding victory to the CPDM. Our goal is not only to win but to win convincingly; to secure the numbers that assure credibility and legitimacy to our victory,” added Victor Mengot, who at once noted that 9 February affords Manyu another opportunity to demonstrate its loyalty to the pact that it signed with President Paul Biya.
“We have to join the rest of the country and help President Paul Biya to redeem his promise to us,” Minister Mengot said emphatically, calling on Manyu CPDM militants to vote wisely so as to choose those to manage their affairs at local level.
Speaking earlier, Senator Tabetando bemoaned the sad events that are playing out in the NW and SW and which have grounded socio-economic activities in the two regions in general and Manyu in particular. He reiterated his plea for the youths who have taken up arms and are fighting the regime from the bushes, to drop their arms and embrace normal life once again.
Tabetando hailed the Major National Dialogue that was convened by President Biya, and the landmark recommendations that emanated there-from, including notably the special status for NW and SW, reinforced decentralization, obligatory bilingualism, election of government delegates etc.
Saying that life in NW/SW will become a paradise with the full implementation of the fruits of the MND, Tabetando enjoined Manyu CPDM militants to say thank you to Paul Biya by voting massively for the party’s candidates on 9 February.
The Patriarch used the occasion to present the three Manyu candidates for the legislative elections, saying they were endorsed by the party because they were found worthy in character and in activism and loyalty to the party.
All the earlier speakers prayed for peace and unity to return to Manyu and for militants to support President Biya’s vision for Cameroon and Manyu.
The ceremony culminated in the reading of a motion of support to President Biya.
Heavy feasting at the SDO’s residence crowned the campaign launch in Manyu, which commentators admitted was hugely successful.
