2020 Limbe FESTAC Kicks-Off on March 28

“Limbe festival of art and culture, Limbe FESTAC, is neither a money-wasting event nor a money-making event for the organizers that is one of the reason we have decided to increase the number of household prizes in order to touch many more persons and families.”
               
New Limbe City Mayor, Andrew Motanga standingalongside his assistants and some stakeholders during
the press conference to announce the 2020 Limbe FESTAC
The vision bearer of the festival made this clarification during a joint press briefing on the seventh edition of the cultural jamboree and the African Championship, CHAN 2020, on Friday 28 February, at the Conference Hall of the Limbe City Council.
The annual FESTAC brings together people Cameroon and neighbouring countries to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Cameroon.
                The 7th edition of the event will run from 28 March to 4 April. It will set the stage for the CHAN 2020 whose kick-off for the first match is billed for 7 April.
                The City Mayor of Limbe reiterated that profit making is not the objective of the event, which seeks to reinforce national integration and peaceful coexistence.
                Highlighting the role of the media plays in promoting the festival, Motanga beckoned on media men to shout this special edition of the festival, which will culminate in the 2020 CHAN.
                The City Mayor fielding questions from Journalists on such aspects as the budget, security, the short notice, innovations, transportation, prospects amongst others.
The city mayor said the organizing committees are working on a budget of over FCFA 100 million. He assured the population that all will be put into place as the committees have been working underground.

                He used the occasion to also assure the population about a successful hosting of the CHAN, saying Limbe is prepared just like during the 2016 women AFCON.
                He however called on everyone especially those who are directly involved in the organization, to put all hands on deck to make the CHAN more successful.
                About the socio-political situation in the two English speaking regions, the city mayor assured that security of participants and the population will be their number one priority.
                The innovation in this year’s Festac will be the introduction of poetry, drama and painting competition for primary and secondary schools in Limbe.
                There shall be the raffle draw for 16 items to be won including 10 motor bikes, 4 laptops, 6 fridges, 6 deep freezers, 6 televisions, 6 gas cookers and more, all amounting to 18.3 million FCFA.
                Raffle tickets will be sold at 1000 FRS per ticket. It will be available in major towns across the nation.
                Motanga Andrew Monjimba used the opportunity to appeal to the business community to come on board the Limbe FESTAC train for the project to stay on course.
He called on the population to participate massively as always.
                The opening ceremony will take place at the Limbe Community Field, while other events including canoe race, football tournament and marathon will take place on the allocated playing grounds. .
                The programs will also feature cultural music, a beauty pageant, dancing, visit to tourist sites and choral displays by delegations from all ten Regions including neighboring countries.
                The Limbe FESTAC is intended to break cultural boarders and bring together cultures and tribes from all over Cameroon and beyond, as well as uphold the spirit of living together, Motanga emphasized.
