The Cameroon Cricket Federation, Fecacricket, has on 8
February launched its sporting activities for the 2020 season.
The
launching that coincided with activities of the National Youth Week, took the
garb of a youth cricket bonanza which brought together at the Mervick Bilingual
Grammar School playground, young cricketers from some selected cricket playing
schools in Yaounde.
The
schools included notably Mervick BGS, BHS Essos, College Montesquieu Yaounde,
College Larousse Yaounde and BHS Emana.
Activities
of the day started with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by remarks
of advice by the President of Fecacricket, Victor Agbor Nso.
Before
the start of the day’s tournament, a mini didactic cricket match was played
pitting some players of the under-17 national cricket selection against coaches
of some cricket playing schools. The coaches won the match by 37 against 22
runs.
The
tournament proper had matches pitting the selected schools against one another,
in both male and female categories.
The
first round results were the following: BHS Emana (Girls) 44 runs – College
Larouse 43 runs; BHS Essos 22 runs – Mervick GHS 34 runs.
In the
second round (semi-finals), College Larouse girls beat BHS Essos girls by 26
runs against 25, while Mervick boys beat Montesquieu boys 30-28 runs.
In the
finals that followed, BHS Emana girls beat their counterparts of College
Larouse 27 to 21 runs, while in the boys final, College Larouse beat Mervick by
37 to 34 runs.
As the
victors celebrated their victories, the President of Fecacricket, Victor Agbor,
informed the jubilant youths of the holding during the long holidays of a
two-week “intensive cricket training holiday camp”.
The
very long day came to an end with the award of individual and collective prizes
to some players who distinguished themselves and to the participating teams.
The prizes included notably that for the revelation of the tournament; best
male and female player; best fielder; best bowler, best batter, best fair-play
team etc.
The
activities were watched by a representative of the Minister of Sports and
Physical Education. A battery of pressmen assured media coverage of the
well-organized, crowd-pulling tournament.
