Indomitable Lions international striker, Christian Bassogog, has offered the sum of FCFA 10 million as assistance to Cameroonians presently quarantined in China as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. The amount was handed to Felix Mbayu, Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in Charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth for onward transmission. It was during an audience Mbayu granted the 24-year-old striker Tuesday 25 February 2020 at the Ministry in yaounde.
“This money is aimed at helping Cameroonian nationals living in China especially the students,” said the 2017 AFCON best player, while, urging other Cameroonians of goodwill in other parts of the world to contribute to ameliorate the conditions of their kith and kin in China. He also appealed to all and sundry to join hands and assist the Chinese government, seriously battling to contain the crisis.

“It’s important that we come together in such periods and show such support and love to the needy. “We want more Cameroonians across the world to reach out and support not just their countrymen but also China as a nation,” he appealed.  Bassogog who plays for Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League is currently in Yaounde following the suspension of football in China due to the virus.
His donation comes barely a week after President Paul Biya ordered the disbursement of the financial aid worth FCFA 50 million to Cameroonian students currently being quarantined in China. Statistics made known by the Cameroon Embassy in China indicates that at least 300 Cameroonians are resident in Hubei province, and 200 others in Wuhan-the heartbeat of the virus. The virus has so far killed over 2200 persons, with over 77000 confirmed cases.
