Over 400 ‘Refugees’ From Ediki, K’ba Risk Epidemic in Mbanga

Close to 400 hundred Anglophone ‘refugees’ fleeing the Anglophone crisis have continued to wallow in starvation and hardship in Mbanga, Moungo Division of the Littoral Region.The fleeing population are mainly those who escaped from military battle with unknown gunmen in the village of Ediki and Bombe in Mbonge sub-division of Meme Division on Friday April 13, 2018.

            The incident occurred when suspected separatists fighters surfaced from unknown destinations and blocked traffic on the Kumba-Buea highway leading to military intervention that reportedly led to sporadic shootings from both ends.

            The fleeing population were received by the Divisional Officer for Mbanga, Amstrong Buikame Voh, alongside his collaborators and lodged at the CPDM party house in Mbanga.The DO in an interview with a local TV station in Douala revealed that the party house was surrendered to the fleeing population and basic amenities provided them adding that the displaced were to be taken care of for the main time.

Mbanga Population call for more security

            In the wake of the influx of the population from Ediki and Bombe villages, the population of Mbanga has been begging the administrative and security officials to tighten security into the sub-division as it is just a stone throw from the troubled Meme Division where the Anglohone crisis has escalated into a full-fledged war.

            To these disturbed Mbanga denizens, the government should hasten up the solutions to the Anglophone crisis before it spills over to their area. They noted with dismay the suffering the populations of Ediki and Bombe who have escaped their villages are facing in Mbanga.

Courageous Population begin returning home

Over the weeked, a hand full of some courageous population started returning to their homes in the villages while others for fear of the unknown continued to stagger in hardship in Mbanga.Some of those who mustered courage to return to Ediki and Bombe told this reporter on conditions of anonymity that they were returning to see if things have come back to normal and if not they will have no choice but to flee back to neighboring Mbanga that is relatively calm for now. They noted that the ‘Ambazonia’ separatists fighters are gradually diverting their attention from Bole and Kwa-Kwa areas to villages along the Kumba-Buea road axis.

            It should be recalled that the fleeing populations were safe by the benevolence of the Kumba-Mbanga train pilot who stopped to carry them to Mbanga. Without such kind gesture from the railway officials, the fleeing populations who were all littered in nearby bushes would have stayed for nights before getting their way to Mbanga. Amongst them were sets of two weeks old twins, pregnant women, the elderly and even the sick. With the violent twist taken by the Anglophone cul-de-sac, many are begging on bended knees for the Yaounde regime to with immediate effect call for dialogue that will play a great role in solving impasse.
