Minister Lauds Cleanliness Of Buea And Limbe

Minister Mbwentchou on inspection visit to low cost housing iprojects in Limbe, Buea

The Minister of Housing and Urban development has applauded Buea and Limbe for their sense of cleanliness. Jean Claude Mbwentchou was speaking in Limbe April 27 as he inspected low cost housing projects in the seaside resort city and in Buea.

            Speaking at the end of his guided tour of the housing sites, Minister Mbouentchou could not conceal his satisfaction with the rate of execution of the project. He exhorted the companies building the houses to accelerate with the work and ensure that the projects are completed before the end of the year.

            But what marked the visitor from Yaounde the more was the cleanliness of the towns of Buea and Limbe. Mbouentchou hailed the mayors and residents of the two cities for their sense of hygiene and sanitation.

Whilst in Buea, Minister Mbwentchou began his tour at the Governor’s Office before moving successively to the Buea Town Municipal Stadium checking access roads, then to the Bwitingi low cost housing site.

            According to the contractor of the housing project, the total of FCFA 4.4 billion for the project will be used to among other things construct twelve bungalows, fourteen twin bungalows, five three bedroom apartments, a Nursery and Primary school, a health centre etc.

            Going by the contractor, the project is at 36 percent execution rate. He hinted that the 21 June 2018 deadline for completion of the project cannot be met. He blamed this on some administrative and technical hurdles including heavy rains, ghost towns, interruption of internet, late payment of workers, replacement of subcontractors, difficulties in getting qualified labour for certain tasks, bad nature of soils etc.

            From Buea, the delegation headed to Limbe Stadium where the access roads and parking lots were scrutinized. Here, the Minister suggested the construction of a perimeter fence round the parking lots to secure vehicles during matches and other events.

            After the Limbe main stadium, Mbwentchou made a brief stop at Middle Farms and examined some low cost houses constructed there.          

            The working visit ended at the Limbe City Council where the officials and enterprises of the various projects had deliberations on the problems and way forward. At the end, the minister stated that he was satisfied about what he has seen in the two towns.

            “Buea and Limbe are very clean and I have the opportunity to congratulate those responsible for such outlook. In the domain of roads, I also tick a plus but I am asking the mayors and their collaborators to carry out some work to clear pot holes on the roads,” Mbwentchou advised.

            He called on the contractors to finish up the work before the end of the year and for the population to handle the new infrastructure jealously.
