The Social Democratic Front (SDF) party has tasked President Paul Biya to bring peace in the troubled Anglophone regions or postpone the twin elections billed for 9 February 2020. SDF authorities say if peace and security does not return in these regions the SDF may be forced to boycott the twin elections in February 2020.
This rather tough stance of the SDF was revealed during a press conference on Thursday 28 November, at the SDF headquarters in Yaoundé.
Addressing the militants and journalists present, the First Vice President of SDF, Hon. Joshua Nambangi Osih said: “….if we decided to contest in these elections, it is because we want to continue to be part of the process to bring back peace to the Northwest and Southwest regions.”
Osih said the SDF will never take a position that is at variance with her objective to work towards bringing lasting peace in the two troubled regions.

He said the SDF’s decision to partake in the election is a way to compel the government to create an enabling environment for credible elections to take place in these two regions.
“We are not going into this election to put the lives of our candidates and militants in danger. We are going in for the election because we sincerely believe that Biya will use his powers to make sure that on the 9th of February the situation is such that elections can hold in the NW/SW.”
The SDF kingpin used the occasion to urge President Biya to hurry with the implementation of the salient recommendations of the Major National Dialogue, notably the Special Status for the two regions.
