The bikers in the course of the demonstrations vowed to disrespect separatist-imposed ghost town and called for an effective kick-off of classes come September.

Barely three days after the anti-ghost town protest, a popular Kumba biker was kidnapped at his Mile One neighbourhood residence and taken to the bush by gunmen. The biker whose name we got as Tah George popularly called 'Caporal' was severely beaten by gunmen in their hideouts.
We learnt he was accused of been one of the front liners in the anti-ghost town protest and for equally reportedly helping soldiers with information that led to the killing of another biker with a popular name ‘Sango Nokia’. Tah George, was later murdered at Mile One and his corpse abandoned beside the road with a notice placed on him "black leg". The incident occurred Wednesday July 17. His motorbike was taken away by the gunmen.

Cut-throat Okada Fares
Several neighbourhoods in Kumba considered to be separatist hotspots have been declared no go areas by bikers. Inhabitants of Ngamlikum, Mile One, Three Corners Fiango, Kosala, Appaulinaire Street, Meta Quarters, Mbonge Road neighbourhoods are forced to trek kilometres before getting to the markets and their job sites because of the absence of bikes. Fear of being kidnapped and beaten, bikers have avoided the aforesaid areas. Few courageous bikers circulating in these areas are levying cut-throat prices on passengers.

Corpse of Murdered Biker Silently Removed, Buried
Despite promising to parade the streets of Kumba with the corpse of their murdered colleague before escorting him Konye Sub-Division, the corpse of Itoe Junior, murdered Kumba biker was silent removed from the Kumba District Hospital mortuary and transported to the village without the presence of any biker. No biker was found at the mortuary to bid farewell to the murdered colleague because of fear of gunmen. Reports we gathered indicated that gunmen operating along the Kumba-Konye stretch had sent threatening messages to all bikers not to set foot in Konye. Family members were also reportedly threatened not to accept bikers from following the corpse to the village.

Plans To Lodge Targeted Bikers
Administrative officials in Kumba are currently finalising plans on how to lodge close to 200 bikers who actively took part in the anti-ghost town protest and are still willing to work on ghost town days, The Median has gathered. The plan we learnt is to prevent the bikers and their families from being targeted and attacked by Amba boys. Though it is still unclear where such number of bikers would be lodged and for how long, sources say the administration might provide them some of the abandoned state houses.
