Within a backdrop of the crisis that is rocking the North West and South West regions and the need to involve youths in the peace process, over 216 youths from various divisions in the North West region of Cameroon have received lessons on peace and development strategies and approaches.
This was the subject of a one day training workshop organisied by Hope for a Better Future (H4BF) and Master Peace Cameroon in partnership with Faith In the Commonwealth Trainers Youth Network for the North West Region, and Peace Revolution.
While opening the workshop, the Founder and Executive Director of Hope for a Better Future (H4BF) thanked the youths and facilitators for honouring their invitation and noted that the ongoing crisis that have rocked the North West and South West warrants that youths take bull by the horns by championing for peace.
The youths who turned out in their numbers were engaged in educative and interactive discussions on issues regarding youth peace and development and their involvement in the peace process.
The youths were entertained to engaging and educative topics by Mbimenyuy Marius Kongnso, Co-founder/projects coordinator at H4BF, Yaouba Ibrahim, Past President Kumbo Rotary Club and Program Director of Rural Development Foundation, Nyango Linen Janet, Director of CEAC Nkwen, Melvin Songwe, Founder/director of United Youths Organization, Noel Chelton, Founder and director of community actions for agriculture and sustainable development(CASDEV), Tata Charity Yenlan, Deputy director SOPISDEW Cameroon amongst others.
Some of the modules tackled included, the Role of youths in Promoting Peace and fighting against violence, hate speech and extremism, the importance of understanding, Tolerance and Respect as models to promote peace, Mindfulness and Meditation as a tool to promote peace and fight against violence and extremism and Music for Peace and Sustainable Development and the use of social media platforms as a tool to promote self-growth and community development.
Hope for A better future (H4BF) cooperative society is a youth led cooperative society created in January 2009 and legalized in May 07 of the same year under the Cameroon authorization number NW/IP/SCOOPS/001/14/232. It is a Cameroon non-governmental organization, founded in the North West region of the country against the backdrop of increasing youth unemployment, increasing poverty, poor agricultural yields due to increasing unsustainable agricultural practices and lack of access to vocational training facilities.
Their activities also include but are not limited to community water supply and management, peace building, environmental protection, agribusiness, capacity building, watershed/water catchment protection, disability inclusive development and fight for protection of the rights of the girl child.
