The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defense, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo, has charged newly appointed Commanders of the 3rd & 4th combined military and Gendarmerie Regions to step up the momentum in the fight against the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, highway robbery, circulation of small weapons, kidnapping for ransom, trans-border crimes, rural/urban banditry among others.

While installing the Commanders of the 4th combined Military and Gendarmerie region, Major General Saly Mohamadou and Brigadier General ESSOH Jules Cesar respectively, in Maroua, on Friday 13 December, Minister Beti Assomo reiterated President Paul Biya’s determination to completely eradicate Boko Haram within Cameroon’s territorial boundaries.
He instructed the new Army and Gendarme Commanders to conceive new tactics in wiping out activities of Boko Haram which is gradually resurfacing with new strategies in some border localities in the region.
Apart of combating Boko Haram, the MINDEF urged the two officials to use their wealth of experience to step up the fight against highway robbery, arms trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, rural and urban banditry and ensure adequate security before, during and after the 2020 twin elections.

He saluted the successes made by the outgone joint military and Gendarme commanders, Brigadier Generals Ndjonkep Meyomhy Frederic and Louba Zal Pierre respectively, in maintaining peace and security and urged the new comers to quickly master their terrain and to work in total collaboration with administrative officials, vigilante groups and the local population and in strict respect of professional ethics and human rights.
The Government Delegate to the Maroua City council, Bakary Robert, in his welcome address pledged the population’s unflinching support and collaboration with the new commanders in the fight to restore normalcy.
On their part, the Commanders of the 3rd Joint Military and Gendarmerie region comprising  Adamawa and North regions with command post in Garoua, Brigadier General Agha Robinson Ndong and Brigadier General Louba Zal Pierre respectively were charged to familiarize themselves with and quickly master their area of command in order to respond to security challenges including notably recurrent highway robbery, trans-border crimes, frequent incursions by armed groups from neighbouring countries, circulation of small arms, rising wave of kidnapping for ransom, rural/urban banditry and ensure serenity throughout the upcoming legislative and municipal elections.
Minister Beti Assomo gave the directives while commissioning the two senior officers in Garoua, on Saturday 14 December 2019.
The Minister exhorted the laureates to galvanize the troops, raise their morale and instill strict discipline if they must ensure effective execution of operations in the field.
He advised the new Commanders to ensure total collaboration with elements of the Multinational Joint Task Force, administrative, traditional authorities and vigilante group members in their fight to restore normalcy.
He charged Gen. Louba Zal especially to reduce security checkpoints along the Douala-Banqui, Douala-N'Djamena-Garoua-Boulai road corridors and ensure fluid circulation.
He said the multi checkpoints do not only cause diplomatic brawls between the governments of Cameroon and Chad but they also negatively affect the economy of Cameroon, as import and export of goods are slowed.
He saluted the efforts of the outgone joint military and Gendarmerie commanders, Brigadier Generals Eba Eba Bede Benoit and Ekongwese Divine Nnoko respectively in maintaining security in the two regions.
