Midterm Evaluation: Mbonge Councilors Endorse Mayor’s Management Amid Conflict -Mayor 'buys' IDP councilors with food items

The Mayor of Mbonge Council has promised to continue with the good development steps earmarked for the municipality despite the deepening Anglophone crisis. Chief Daniel Matta Mokambe made the assurance while addressing councillors during a session devoted to evaluate the council's midterm performance towards the realisation of its 2019 budget on July 19, 2019, at the Kumba city council hall.
    Mayor Mokambe saluted the team spirit existing within the council which to him is the main secret behind the council's success in the execution of projects, revenue realization and expenditure for the past six months. He revealed that as at June 30th, the council had collected FCFA 573 098 889 million revenue (64%) with an expenditure of FCFA 306 293 054 (38.5%) on investment out of the 2019 budget that was drawn to balance in revenue and expenditure at the sum of FCFA 893 million.
    He however, lamented the adverse effects of the ongoing crisis that is retarding development of his municipality. “We would have gone a long way towards accomplishing our mission if not of the present socio-political situation” Mayor Mokambe opined while underscoring the council's relentless pursuit for peace and reconciliation aimed at creating a community where ideas can flourish and opinions counted.

    He said in order not to lose not to lose funds of some envisage projects in the municipality, projects earmarked in  some hot zones will be transferred to accessible and less hot zones pending the end of the crisis. While urging all and sundry to join the crusade for an effective resumption of classes in the municipality, the Mayor, appealed on parents with kids without birth certificates to ensure procuring the document especially as the council has made the registration process registration.
    The councilors on their part thanked the Mayor for providing them with humanitarian relief material comprising basic food items and mattresses. They urged the Mayor to extend the gesture to other Mbonge inhabitants living in the bushes.
    Observing the proceedings, the Second Assistant SDO for Meme, Hermia Njonje congratulated the Mayor for standing out amongst his colleagues in Meme to evaluate the council's mid-term performance. She applauded the 64% revenue realization and 38.5% investment.
    She urged the Mayor to re-inject the over 266 million surplus revenue on development projects in the municipality.
